Resumo: This dissertation aims to verify, by the relational basis of criticism of the bourgeoisie, the interdiscursive relations with Faust, notably that of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, established in the novel Cousin Bazilio (1878), by Eça de Queiroz’s. The analysis is based on the reference to the opera “Fausto”, by Charles Gounod's, adaptation of the masterpiece of the German poet. The operatic aspects are very present throughout the Queirosian narrative. In this sense, our research is focused on the Queirosian discourse in the quest to understand the reference to operatic Faust as not arbitrary, but symptomatic and capable of engendering an effect of symbolic meaning, resulting from an ideological transit of the criticism of 19th-century bourgeois society. This criticism would bind the German poet and the author Portuguese. In view of this, our focus is primarily, with a review of the Queirosian literary journalistic scene in order to establish convergences between the studied work and Fausto, according to the social criticism proposed by the author. Then, are presented, by comparison, the characteristics that coexist in the Cousin Bazilio and Faust, thus composing a scenario of interdiscourse. Ultimately, the analysis will make us see how the interdiscursivity operates in the Cousin Bazilio, through the isotopic influence of the opera “Faust”, while critical of the bourgeoisie. As a theoretical contribution of this research of a comparative nature, we adopted the semiotic perspective of BERTRAND (2003), FIORIN (1998, 2000, 2006 and 2012), PIETROFORTE (2008) and BARROS (2001). Concerning the critical fortune of Eça de Queiroz’s, related to the opera and Faust, the references are in ARAÚJO (2008), LIMA (1995), CARVALHO (1986, 2000), VALENTIM (2010, 2014), BERRINI (1982), COELHO (1996), MORNA (1991), PINTO (1990), DELLILE (1984) and MOURA (2004). The research proves the presence of interdiscursivity between Faust, German tragic poem, and the novel of Eça de Queiroz’s, Cousin Bazilio, expressed operistically, through thematic-figurative isotopies in the context of criticism of the bourgeoisie.
