The objective of this research is to know the psychosocial and educational meanings of body illness, obtained during the experiences of students and teachers in physical therapy practice, designated space for construction of conceptions of illness. This was a qualitative and descriptive study, performed at the Department of Physical Therapy of Federal University of Ceará, Brazil, and in a Physical Therapy Clinic of primary health care, from June 2014 to January 2015. The sample consisted of 24 participants, eight patients, eight students and eight teachers of the course. The instrument was the semi-structured interviews with the actors of the investigation. The considerations raised by the research allowed to emerge the following conceptual study categories: The meanings of illness process; Physical therapy representations about the body; students training to face the subjective implications of illness; Curriculum of Physical Therapy course of the Federal University of Ceará as tapping space and sickening practices. Despite the integrated feature of the modules prescribed in the curriculum, in the basic area, the body comprehensive view is presented in only one module, Individual, culture and society and its contents are not integrated with other modules in semesters. The specialty clinics modules do not describe their menus aspects related to the body of subjectivity in the perspective of attention to the subject, which has a physical disability, but that should portray its affective context. The Educational Project of Physical Therapy Course, even though innovative character, presents in its prescriptive curriculum a look dichotomized in this body, but are unveiled, through the speeches of patients, students and teachers, the emergence of a new look at the subject ill even if the speeches still to turn the monitoring and classification of bodies, but you want to include in addition to these two constructs aspects that can achieve this body more linear and multidimensional way. The results of this study, according to the used qualitative methodology, indicate the need for further reflection, for resizing the curriculum of physiotherapy courses with emphasis to not only on technical and scientific issues but also expand efforts to psychosocial issues and affective, in the context of health and illness, along traverse the processes of teaching and student learning so that they can understand the complexity of the illness and its confrontation and an improvement in quality of care. |
