Resumo: This study was conducted in order to evaluate the catalytic activity of new complexes. These complexes can accelerate, without compromising the quality of the final material, the process of oxidative polymerization of vegetable oils. The aim of this work is to attain new catalytic systems for oxidative polymerizations that can be, in the future, used in the coating industry. This work was conducted in two parts. At first, the nitrogen ligands 2 - (acetyl- 2,6-diisopropilfenilimine)-pyridine and [N-(2,6-diisopropilfenil)imino] acenaftoquinone were synthesized and characterized for their coordination to the metal center, thus producing new catalysts of cobalt and manganese. The stoichiometric ratio, to attain cobalt and manganese complexes, was determined. In a second step, these complexes were employed in the oxidative polymerization reactions of linseed oil, in order to assess their catalytic activity. The main results of this work are to obtain a new family of complexes, based on cobalt and manganese, modified with nitrogen ligands. In several cases the manganese catalytic systems, showed higher efficiency than those of cobalt. The strategy of use nitrogen ligands, in order to accelerate the reaction of oxidative polymerization, is very promising.
