Resumo: Leishmaniasis is one of the diseases that most affects the poorest people. The causative agent belongs to the genus Leishmania, and present in promastigotes and amastigotes forms. Leishmaniasis treatment presents a many problems: adverse effects and high toxicity difficult to treat, as well as cases of resistance of some strains. Therefore, it is necessary to produce novel drug candidates for leishmaniasis. Thus, this paper aims to synthesize and evaluate new antimony compounds with potential activity leishmanicide. We had synthesized six antimony complexes (V) derivatives of undecylenic acid fatty acid, octanoic acid and hexanoic acid: (UND)2SbPh3, (OCTA)2SbPh3, (HEX)2SbPh3, (UND)2Sb(CH3)3, (OCTA)2Sb(CH3)3 and (HEX)2Sb(CH3)3. All compounds were characterized by 1H NMR and IR. The absorption spectra in the infrared of all complexes demonstrated no band relative to the carboxylic acid and the presence of Sb-O band. The complexes (UND)2SbPh3, (OCTA)2SbPh3 and (HEX)2SbPh3 show, in their nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, typical shifts the presence of aromatic structures, multiplets at 7.45 and 7.99 ppm. These complexes were subjected to cell viability assays and antileishmanial activity, and they showed inhibition of growth of promastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis, and Leishmania chagasi. (UND)2SbPh3 had the lowest IC50 between the evaluated complexes in the MTT assay, while the complex (OCTA)2SbPh3 showed the lowest IC 50 in the test species of Leishmania amazonensis. leishmanicide activity assays against amastigotes are being carried out to confirm the activity of these molecules.
