Resumo: | Scientific literacy is a proposal of learning that contributes significantly to the Science Teaching. In thissense, for the training of citizens, this study had the objective of verifying thescientific literacy conditionabout themangrove ecosystem of students in 7thgrade of apublic elementary schoolin Maceio, Alagoas. The choice of this theme came from theimportance that this environment presents for the maintenance of aquatic life, in estuaries and in the adjacent ocean to the coastal zone. On a qualitative approach, we tried to observe what knowledge students from two classes of 7thgradeof elementary school to a public school in Maceio, Alagoas, presented on the mangrove ecosystem. For thisstage, the students answered aquestionnaire with ten objective questions in order to verify the students' prior knowledge about the concept, importance, location and relationship of that ecosystem with economic and environmental issues.It was found that the knowledge of the students surveyed are still very superficial, given the great importance of this content to the preservation and enhancement of the environment and animal species of economic importance to man. In the same perspective of research, we sought to identify which teaching strategies, focusing on scientific literacy, Science teachers working in the research school to use the discussion of the topic. For this identification were conducted semi-structured interviews with five teachers, about their methodologies, theoretical approach and how they could promote scientific literacy focusing on the mangrove ecosystem. Regarding the results obtained with the teachers, it was found that there is progress, but also limits the teaching of the mangrove ecosystem. In semi-structured interviews also revealed a trend towards teaching approach based in the transmission of content, even demonstrating know ways of working the mangrove ecosystem in the perspective of scientific literacy. Continuing the research, a third step, after application of the Educational Product, a book-game called “An adventure in the mangrove”, the preliminary analysis of the data showed that students were more involved with this environment of knowledge and more curious to explore and preserve the ecosystem. Thus it was evident that there is need for more action On the part of the teachers, in the sense of promoting experiences as varied as possible to arouse the pleasure by reading and to enjoy its benefits with learning. |
