Resumo: Measurements of nitrogen oxides (NOX) were performed at a single point of the city of Maceió-AL, located in the neighborhood of Farol near to of Lima Fernandes Avenue, via access to a variety of city neighborhoods. The geographic coordinates of the study were are in 9 ° 36'52 "S and 35 ° 44'28" W and is about 6.5 km from the sea. The survey data was from 20/04 to 20/05 2011, characteristic period in the region as the transition season of the Summer season to the winter season. Data were collected by analyzer NOX (NO + NO2) API model 200A by the method of chemiluminescence. For the weather conditions we used a weather station 2 Pro WeatherLink Davis Instruments (USA) both devices carried out measurements each 10 minutes and the atmospheric model (WRF) which performed weather simulations. According to the analysis the concentrations were sensitive to weather conditions, with the mean maximum concentration NO of 17,5 ppbv and minima of 4,8 ppbv, where as that of NO2 showed a average of up to 10,1 ppbv and a minimum of 10 ppbv. The behavior of the concentrations ranged as follows, at night when the humidity was higher, the concentrations were higher, due to reduction of Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL), increasing winds speed and atmospheric stability weaker than those emissions of light vehicles (gasoline and alcohol) and particularly heavy vehicles (diesel) that occur at this time, especially in the range of 17-18 hours. During daytime only in the intervals between 06:00 to 08:00 hours had increased, that due to the great flow of heavy vehicles on the spot, but overall concentrations were lower, because the solar radiation contributed to the significant decrease concentrations of these oxides, through the photolysis of NO2, leading to formation of other secondary pollutants like ozone, a pollutant harmful to human health significantly.
