Resumo: The development of studies aimed at understanding the behavior of diffuse pollution in Brazil is still in its early stages, mostly have the river basin as monitoring element, making the very general results. Proposals to study specific environments such as, heavy traffic roads, residential units, specific types of surfaces such as roofs, coatings and paintings are still very rare. Given this need, this study aimed to design a low-cost sampler for the monitoring of diffuse pollution directly into the ground in a housing unit with several potential diffuse contribution as sediment, BOD 5, COD, nutrients, metals and oils and greases through the collection of surface runoff in a drainage channel rainwater, assessing its potential and limitations in monitoring such events. It was built from PVC connections and polypropylene containers coupled to a level sensor, the system was used to monitor the quality of runoff produced by residential by collecting samples to carry out the SST analysis, BOD5, COD, NT, PT, Zn, Pb, Cu, Cd, and oil and grease. The methodology will contribute to increasing the understanding of diffuse pollution in urban areas and may raise parameters to manage the proper disposal of wastewater produced in these units, in addition to low-cost sampling system encourage increased number of research, given its ease of construction and use. Put results and conclusions. The best result of perception of change in concentration during the analyzed collection was identified for BOD5. Finally, the sampler proved effective for collecting samples in order to monitor diffuse pollution to present low cost for maintenance, replacement and ability to collect samples with small volumes of rain in the first minutes of precipitation.
