Resumo: The present study emerged from concerns regarding the content of Chemical Kinetics in the context of Brazilian schools, and how this thematic can be worked on in the Science discipline to favor the scientific literacy of students. The research was developed in a school of the Iati city Municipal Network, which is located in the Agreste Meridional region of the Pernambuco state. It presents the following questioning: how can the Research-oriented teaching of Science (ROTS), in light of Scientific Literacy (SL), favor the understanding of Chemical Kinetics by 9th grade students of elementary school? This is a case study research with a qualitative approach, which included 39 students followed between the months of February and March 2019. For the general objective to be achieved, the following data collection resources were employed: logbook; camcorders and questionnaires; as well as written production - texts and drawings. Data analysis was based on the content analysis proposed by Bardin (2011). In this context, the aforementioned approach enabled the development of an Investigative Teaching Sequence (ITS) on the above-mentioned theme, which makes up the educational product envisioned for Elementary School teachers - Final Years. Through its application, we were able to identify that the followed students presented initial conceptions about the topic of Chemical Reactions, and that research-oriented teaching proved to be a methodological approach capable of promoting the understanding of Chemical Kinetics, since it led the target audience to act and reflect critically, as well as to argue about the speed of reactions and the factors influencing this process (temperature, concentration and contact surface), which contributed to the SL of the research subjects.
