Resumo: | The displacement of people in the Italic Peninsula is a phenomenon that can be observed even in the Late Middle Ages. Displacement that reached its highest rates in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Brazil was one of the main destinations of these 19th century immigrants that left Italy in search of better living conditions, fleeing from poverty and political repression. However, in the last decades of the last century, as observes Bertonha, there is a new profile of Italian immigrants both in the way in which this migration occurs, as well as in the reasons and destinations of this displacement. The research undertaken in this dissertation takes as starting point the reports of the memories of Riccardo Canesi, an Italian who lives in Maceió for more than 25 years. I seek to insert his immigration in the conditions observed by Bertonha. I also seek to discuss the representation processes carried out by Canesi and reflect about the ways of how this representations conditioned his practices and his choice of the city of Maceió to live. |
