Resumo: | This study presents research results on how damage, social and environmental effects on traditional communities are configured from the implementation of the mega-project for the exploration of natural gas, with the installation of the Parnaíba Thermoelectric Power Plants, forming the so-called “Parnaíba Complex”, currently managed by company MPX/ENEVA and which was implemented in the territories of communities in the municipalities of Santo Antônio dos Lopes and Capinzal do Norte, located in the Middle Mearim region, in the state of Maranhão. The first thermoelectric plants were installed within the territory of the traditional Demanda community, which, in addition to being affected by the social and environmental effects resulting from the installation of the project, subsequently underwent a process of compulsory displacement, which gave rise to the Nova Demanda community, marked by arbitrariness, expropriation and social uncertainty for those whose daily lives and destinies were altered by the company's logic and strategy. The work also analyzes the implementation strategies of megaprojects in the Brazilian Amazon from the conjunction of state and private interests, within the capitalist logic of accumulation via dispossession of the new Imperialism and the effects on traditional peoples and communities. |
