Resumo: The home gardens were characterized to the diversity and amount of forest and fruitful vegetable species, handled and planted in the municipal district of Esperantinopolis, Maranhão, for farmers linked the Union Workers and Rural Workers, with objective of recovering degraded areas and improvement in the quality of workers life and their families. The hypothesis looked for demonstrate, through the productive potential and income of the component fruit bowl, that vegetable diversity is important by environmental and alimentary point of view, but it cannot be by point of view economical parther. Of the selected sample they were identified 32 families and 84 forest species and being used the income of the homes from Maranhão and rural area also Maranhão, as parameters to evaluate the income of the cultivated fruit bowls was verified that in relation to the first 54,55 % presented expectation same or superior and 45,45% inferior, in relation to the second 63,63% equal or superior and 36,37% inferior. The adopted methodology characterized the area of studies, he/she obtained specific data close to the Union of Workers and Rural Workers of Esperantinopolis and his/her organization in own form containing listing and quantification of species forest, fruitful, palm trees and species to season, handled and planted by farmers, analyze of the obtained data, listing and quantification of species forest, fruitful, palm trees. The study can be contribute to development of home gardens viable and productive adapted to the atmosphere, to the needs nutritional of families, to the condition socioeconomics and gone back to the local economy, seeking the improvement of the farmers financial income.
