Resumo: This paper shows an argument related to human emotions and how they are developed and expressed. Our main subject is to understand the emotions and their expressions in nowadays society, based on the cultural historical psychology, developed by Vigotski, Luria and Leontiev. This point of view is based on Marxs and Engels dialectical-historical materialism and it's assumptions about the knowledge of the human being and it's psyches, considering historical and social facts, how each individual gets attached to them and the bonds that can be created between them. In the first part of this paper, we will describe how contemporary psychology treats emotions, through some bibliography in psychology research, done by post graduations programs; promoted in the CAPES website, and in some articles published by scientific magazines in the last five years. This research will allowed us to understand the most important facts about emotions in psychology. In the second part we will try to understand how emotions and other aspects, that are part of the human psyches, such us thought and language, could be analyze as a superior function, which starts as a primary function and modifies itself, according to the different stages that the individual goes through modifying the bonds that it will establish with the social environment and at the same time it will modify itself. The third part will be about the study of historical and social facts that rules the contemporary society, which is in the frame of neoliberalism and post modern culture. This period is considered by the author, as a period of metanarratives denial, of the great theories about the individual that prevailed in the modern era. This period it is also known because of capitalism's innovations, and the growing of the consumption market. This research describes how the human emotions have been developed into this environment, once the social process was settle down, and the loss of important references had created the perfect environment for the development of a suffering human psyches. How the diagnosis of psychopatologies and drugs prescriptions becomes more problematic, because of the consumption. Finally, there are some clinical and educational possibilities, based on Vigotsky's theory that will contribute to develop a psychological referendum, who would be able to offer an accurate practice, helping the one whose psyches is suffering. Thus one can understand that emotion is also associated with the development of the individual and therefore can be considered as a Superior psychological function and that this fact depends on the conditions of production of society and the individual's access to knowledge established historically.
