The present work deals with the Gulf War, between the Iraq and the Coalition of countries led for the United States of America. The analyzed period of crisis if extended enters the July month, when Iraq if prepared to invade the Kuwait, until January of 1991, month that marked the beginning of the conflict. Also the period was analyzed enters 17 of January and 3 of March of 1991, time space where the war occurred. One searched to study such conflict of a ampler form so that it could most be understood in its all. Thus, it was analyzed under three different perspectives: of the military history, of the external politics of the United States and the covering of the written press Brazilian, the periodicals are read "the State of São Paulo" and "Leaf of São Paulo". As if it deals with a thematic military man became necessary a boarding on the war and the military history in theoretical terms. Later, it was looked to demonstrate the trajectory of the external politics of the United States throughout century XX, mainly from World War ll, through the military doctrines and of foreign affairs. Thus, understanding as the United States external politics if it processed and it was constructed is possible to understand better as the United States had carried out and had been taken to participate of the Gulf War, in 1991. For in such a way, the analysis of the Powell Doctrine, the War of the Vietnam, the Doctrine Carter and the Syndrome of the Vietnam had been basic. Finally, such conflict was argued to the optics of the press, therefore it represented changes in the covering of the press written and televising of military conflicts. Such war had covering to the living creature, for the first time in history. Thus, a general analysis of the covering of the press was made, either the televising one, it saw CNN, and mainly, the writing, as carried through for periodicals "the State of São Paulo" and "Leaf of São Paulo", through its editorials, to verify the perceptions, images and constructions concerning the Gulf War. As one is about a thematic one little studied in Brazil and of great relevance it more requires a deepened study. By means of such boardings it was possible to study of accurite form the causes, the conflict and its implications for the United States and the world.
