Resumo: | Primers for SSR locos were employed in current research to evaluate genetic diversity and the structure of populations of popcorn varieties in the germoplasm of the State University of Maringá, Maringá PR Brazil, namely, Viçosa M-21, SE-013, IAC-112, Chile, UNB-2, Laranjeiras do Sul, Argentina and Zélia. One hundred pairs of SSR primers, mapped for common maize, were tested. It was found that 41% were polymorphs and 15 were selected. Fifty-seven alleles were identified from these primers, whereas the number of alleles per loco in the genotypes varied between 2 and 5, with 3.8 alleles/loco on an average. Mean proportion of polymorphic locos in a set of 8 genotypes reached 76.66%. Viçosa M-21, Laranjeiras do Sul and UNB-2 varieties had 100% polymorphic locos, whereas Laranjeiras do Sul variety had the highest heterozygosity level expected. These varieties may be recommended for cross-breeding with plants that have the desired agronomic characteristics so that the genetic base of popcorn maize genotype may be broadened. Primers UMC2281, UMC2115 and UMC2116 showed polymorphism in all analyzed genotypes. They may be indicated as effective and promising to detect polymorphisms in varieties of open pollenization of maize popcorn. Mean heterozygosity varied between 0.2074 and 0.5667. UNB-02 and Laranjeiras do Sul varieties constituted the highest proportion of heterozygous plants and, coupled to the variety with excess heterozygotes (IAC-112, Argentina, Zélia and UNB-02), may be promising for the continuous selection of progenies. |
