Resumo: In this work, were studied the facts that collaborate or difficult the interpretation and the resolution of school mathematical problems for students of the system of Education of Youngs and Adults, that were studying the Phase II of the Fundamental Teaching and the Medium Teaching. The subjects were submitted to a semi-structured clinical interview, with proposal of resolution of problems that involved concepts and elementary mathematical knowledge, individually. The obtained results indicated that the complexity involved in the action of resolution of problems extrapolates either of the use or the subject of the fluency in the reading not of certain strategies or isolated conceptual knowledge. We noticed that the understanding of the statements of the problems and the consequent appropriate approaches are dependent of several factors, among which we mentioned the understanding of the terms of the statements, the previous knowledge of those that try solve them and the coordination of the essential information contained in the statement. It was possible to suppose that, of the mathematical point of view, the time of education the more of the students of the group II it seems not to provide any influence, in other words, it didn't make possible enlargement of the knowledge that the subjects brought of the life; while the fact of some students to use certain mathematical knowledge in practice, it demonstrated to allow larger easiness in the mobilization of procedures for the resolution and explanation of the problems. Due to the obtained results, an inquiry that can be focus of a next work, which is appears: If we repeated this research with a larger number of people, and if the results repeated, what would that indicate us?.
