Resumo: The sport has been indicated as an important context for positive youth development. Nevertheless, there is a gap on the impact of positive sports experience in the spiritual dimension of athletes, characterized by the promotion of the meaning or purpose in life. The aim of the study was to analyze the contribution of positive sports experience, mediated by motivation, the purpose in life young Brazilian athletes. To characterize the current actual state of art of the articles that used the approach of the positive youth development with competitive teams athletes, the first article of the thesis consisted of a systematic review in which 13 articles met the inclusion criteria. A lack of studies and valid instruments in Portuguese was noticed. Thus, in the second article of the thesis, was realized a cross-cultural adaptation and validity of Youth Experience Survey for Sport (YES-S) with 888 athletes Paraná, which demonstrated adequate psychometric fit with the inclusion of a second-order factor called positive youth experience in sport. The analysis of the impact of positive sports experience, mediated by motivation, the purpose in life for young athletes comprised the third article of the original thesis and was carried out with 473 Brazilian athletes. The findings partially confirmed the hypotheses of the study, indicating that positive sports experience, mediated by motivation, contributed more to the existential realization (27%) than for the existential vacuum (15%). For the existential realization, there was a direct impact of positive sporting experience (0.34) and indirect, mediated by intrinsic motivation (0.12). On the other hand, the existential vacuum, had no significant indirect impact, mediated by motivation (-0.07), it was most important being the direct impact of intrinsic (-0.40) and extrinsic (0.45) motivation. It was concluded that the positive sports experience can contribute to the purpose in life of young Brazilian athletes, helping them to find the meaning in life and increasing their existential realization.
