Resumo: Our questions begin to treat on the approach of genres during the stage in the classroom in the Portuguese language classes. Since the publication of the National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs), the teaching of genres gained prominence and became point to numerous questions about the school. This study aims to propose reading activities based on the resulting conceptions of Bakhtin's study of genres, in order to provide a material that can assist during the reading classes. Aiming in that sense, it is a help to what is already brought the textbook Portuguese. We will discuss the history of reading and their supporters, particularly those suffered changes, both the act of reading as reading support. We seek also the historicity in the Brazilian legislation involved in the development of textbooks in Portuguese until his arrival to schools. One of the landmarks occurs in the 1960s, when the socio-political changes have altered school reality bringing students from disadvantaged social classes to the classrooms while the increase in the number of schools revealed instructional nature of problems of teachers. Educational materials, especially textbooks, take then place of relevance. The changes in this period leave, so at first, this new requirement: you need to give subsidies to former teachers, given those from a poor education are no longer the elite reader; secondly, it needs to form very heterogeneous students, coming from very different realities. Finally, the product of this work presents the proposal to work with reading from genres as these include human activities constituted by the language in a particular social group. Elect to do so, three social spheres and 10 genres, namely: a) the literary sphere: the short story, poem, music and chronic; b) the journalistic sphere: news, advertising, the charge and the op-ed; c) the school / university / public sphere: the debate and reporting of lived experience. Keywords: Genres of discourse; reading; history of reading; textbook.
