Resumo: From 1733 up to 1738, Antônio José da Silva (1705-1739) published for the first time, at the Bairro Alto Theater in Lisbon city, eight operas, all of them in Portugese language, seven among them having their music probably written by Antônio Teixeira (1707-1774). Nowadays, there are but three of those operas the musicals manuscripts of which are known: Guerras do Alecrim e Mangerona, As Variedades de Proteu and Precipício de Faetonte, and yet the parts for viola in the latter are lost in full, the same being the case for the parts for singers, apart just one singing quartet. The authorship of the music which is contained in these manuscripts requires a careful examination and points to results surrounding the provenance of the documents, the context of their creation and use, as well as of the musical material that is contained in it, revealing an aesthetic world which refers to a sort of different influences, however important to understanding the Luso-Brazilian musical theater of the eighteenth century. This way, rebuilding these lost musical parts is imperative, so that the performance of this opera can be turned into a possible one and under its best condition. This dissertation aims to report the process of rebuilding of the viola score in a quartet and parts for viola and the singing ones in other three árias of the opera Precipício de Faetonte, written by Antônio José da Silva - O Judeu (1705-1739), with musical composition by Antônio Teixeira (1707- 1774), as from the manuscript in the University of Coimbra General Library’s collection, under the quota MM-876. This rebuilding is based on the analysis of the compositional techniques from other operas by the partnership between Silva and Teixeira, extracting compositional procedures used during the period called the galant style, like phrases organization, quantity of voices, rhetorical choices for text, rhythmic, harmonic and melodic predilection, which can be applied during the process. Keywords: Luso-Brazilian opera, Fall of Phaeton, Antônio José da Silva, Antônio Teixeira, musical score rebuilding.
