Resumo: Cooperatives have been consolidated in the economic and social scenario in Brazil, possessing its own philosophy, which seeks to unite the economic development and social well-being. Among the existing cooperative branches, agriculture has the largest number of cooperatives and cooperative members in Brazil (OCB, 2015). However, cooperatives seek to play its role in a highly competitive scenario, which demands a strategic posture, resulting in the use of new management systems, in the quest for maximizing performance, with the efficient application of available resources without disregarding the principles governing their constitution. The main objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between the organizational culture, the meritocracy and the process of performance evaluation for competence at Cooperativa Agroindustrial Alfa. This dissertation is inserted in the line of research linked to strategy, from the perspective of resource-based view (RBV). The research is characterized as descriptive, with quantitative approach. The data were collected through structured questionnaires applied to the collaborators of the cooperative in four functional areas. The population consisted of 288 collaborators and 159 valid questionnaires were obtained, representing 94.7% of confidence and 5.3% of sampling error. The research instrument consisted of 48 closed questions and for its analysis the statistical package SPSS was used. Through the statistic analysis used it was possible to identify that there is a strong relation between the researched constructs, in the perception of the researchers and the model used for the study has a high power of explanation between the questions and the constructs. It was identified that the construct culture presented higher average and lower standard deviation, indicating that it is an organization that worries about the perpetuation of it’s cultural elements, deep-rooted in his founders / idealizers and that it’s organizacional culture is realized, interpreted and practiced by it’s collaborators through their mission, vision and established values, according to the purpose of the business. In contrast, the construct with the lowest average was meritocracy, which can be justified by the fact that this is an organization with their own doctrine and principles, and there is thus a certain opposition between the cooperative origins and the highly acrimonious environment that requires application of management practices along the lines of private organizations. When it comes to the application of meritocracy in the performance evaluation by competence, it can be observed that some cultural elements have greater alignment with the powers established by Cooperativa Alfa and before that, are more associated with the application of merit.
