Resumo: In recent years, nanotechnology has developed and continues to develop nanoparticles with multifunctional properties, for example, in biomedical applications, magnetic nanoparticles allow new opportunities as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging, specific release of drugs through the magnetic field, treatment of tumors via hyperthermia and separation biomolecular. Amidst all the most commonly used nanoparticles are magnetite (Fe3O4), due to its attractive possibilities in biomedicine and its low cytotoxicity and high biocompatibility with the body, but its synthesis involves elaborate methods and the use of various reagents, which makes the end product more expensive and in small quantities. Thus, this study aimed at the synthesis of magnetite nanoparticles by a new route, simple and economical, enabling future applications, such as a carrier of drugs. The magnetite nanoparticles obtained demonstrated through characterization studies performed, superparamagnetic characteristics, uniform, manageable size and spherical shape of them, and cytotoxicity studies showed no toxicity against erythrocytes and polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN).
