This study aimed to characterize experimental maize inbred lines with different texture of grains for characteristics related to silage quality, with main focus on the analysis of the grain in silage point. It was evaluated 10 genotypes, in four inbred lines and a hybrid (check) characterized by having flint grains and four inbred lines and a hybrid (check) of dent grains. The genotypes were evaluated in two sowing dates, in Guarapuava-PR, in 2013/2014 crop season. The grain yield and weight of 1.000 grain were higher in the first sowing and the genotypes with flint texture grains were higher than genotypes of dent texture. The vitreousness of grains was significantly higher in the group of flint grain lines. In general, dent texture inbred lines were more susceptible to the incidence of rot grains. The group of inbred lines of dent grain texture had higher contents of crude protein and NDF, compared to the group of flint texture inbred lines and had higher digestibility of grain in the silage point. In general, flint grain texture inbred lines showed higher levels of ADF. The group of flint texture inbred lines showed a higher number of starch granules in both parts, the glassy and the farinaceous portion of the endosperm. The genotypes with higher vitreousness of grains presented lower digestibility. The dent inbred line D102-1.2 showed good digestibility of the grain in the silage point. |
