Resumo: |
The internationalization of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is one of the subjects that has been gaining notoriety in the academic world, especially in stricto sensu postgraduate courses in Administration, Education, Languages, International Relations and Community Development, this can be reaffirmed from the productions made available in journal indexers. Thus, the present study has the imminent issue: are there isomorphic practices in the application of the internationalization cycle at the State University of the Midwest? In this sense, the following general objective emerged: unveil if there are isomorphic practices in face of the application of the internationalization cycle of Knight (1994), at the State University of the Midwest (Universidade Estadual do Centro-Oeste – UNICENTRO). Isomorphic pressures of a normative, mimetic and coercive order were found, the first two being more visible. Normative practices were observed in the existence of FAUBAI, which provides training for managers responsible for internationalization in HEIs, causing a standardization by these managers; in the pressure for professors to produce works of international scope and knowledge in a second language to compete for certain public notices to promote internationalization. Mimetic practices are located in the IDPs of the HEIs, in strategies and actions, in journals of lesser impact that copy those with greater impact in order to increase their concept, including the Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Programs, which follow the others to achieve a higher concept, in the perceived need to go along with the other universities (units) located in the same organizational field, in the workshops that are offered by the Brazilian Association for International Education (Associação Brasileira de Educação Internacional - FAUBAI), which shares the resolution of problems and/or gaps faced by other institutions to avoid or solve the same problems in its own HEI and with strategies acquired through “benchmarking”. The coercive comes from the moment when internationalization starts to be considered an indicator evaluated externally to the HEI, as, for example, the Sucupira Platform. This last-mentioned mechanism is also explicit in a second part of the text, but it does not happen at UNICENTRO, but at universities in Europe, which deal with the standardization of school curricula. |
