Resumo: Kidney evaluation by ultrasound techniques (B mode and Doppler) was carried out in 18 dogs with periodontal disease, focused on possible associations between renal lesions and multiple degrees of periodontal injuries. The renal morphological elements and the indices of resistivity and pulsativity of the renal arteries were evaluated in two distinct moments (before periodontal treatment and 15 days after). The relationship between periodontal disease and renal disease in these animals was not verified, but several associations between morphological and ultrasound findings and stages of renal disease were observed. For the hemodynamic indices, a difference in the pulsativity index between the two moments of the exams was observed. Considering these results, the morphological and hemodynamic parameters of the kidneys evaluated by ultrasound techniques are useful tools to identify renal lesions, even before the onset of renal disease, being valuable in its early stages, and are suitable techniques for implementation in veterinary clinical routine.
