Accelerated aging of the population is already somewhat consolidated in literature. Linked to this stage, comes chronic diseases with consequent loss of functional capacity and quality of life. This study aimed to compare the relationship between spirituality, quality of life and functional capacity of institutionalized elderly people and those participants of activities in the Christian churches in the city of Teresina - PI. The specimen consisted in 121 male and female elderly, with 60 years of age or older, institutionalized and participants in activities developed in churches Catholic and Evangelic. The data collection was carried through questionnaires. For functional capacity assessment it was used Katz and Lawton, and Brody Scales. Quality of life and spirituality were assessed using the WHOQOL-bref and Duke-Durel scale respectively. The results were analyzed via common statistics. The Chi-squared, T-student tests were used, and to correlate data was made the Pearson correlation. Among the elderly assessed, the majority was classified as independent for ABIVDs. There was no correlation between functional capacity and spirituality, perhaps because of the high scores established for spirituality by the two populations investigated. However, there was a correlation between spirituality and quality of life, interference in all domains analyzed in the questionnaire. |
