The increase in the life expectancy of the population and the fall in fertility rates has contributed to the increase of the elderly population in Brazil, thus, in the next four years, the country will reach the sixth place among the nations with the largest number of elderly individuals. Although it is a natural process, aging may lead to one or more chronic diseases giving rise to the need for hospitalization to treat such conditions. |
