Resumo: |
Hate speech against Northeasterners has always existed in Brazil, but it gained momentum during the 2018 presidential elections when the right-wing candidate, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, was defeated in all Northeastern states. This led to a wave of attacks on the Northeast and Northeasterners on social networks, particularly Twitter/X. The aim of this research is to investigate the operation of hate speech against Northeasterners on Twitter/X, as well as to identify the discursive and ideological formations of intolerance on the internet by analyzing the paraphrastic and polysemic processes present in hate speech targeting Northeasterners. The theory of French Discourse Analysis (DA), founded by Pêcheux, will be used to understand how these discourses function. Open posts on Twitter/X from 2018 were analyzed. The results, based on DA, show that different meanings were tied to distinct ways of interpreting the content, influenced by varying ideological positions. These connections determined the meaning attributed to "hate speech" and the type of practice understood as such. The conclusion is that French DA provides a solid theoretical foundation for approaching hate speech. Understanding its ideological roots and production conditions enables the development of more effective strategies to combat it, promoting a fairer and more inclusive digital environment. DA equips us with tools to uncover the power structures that sustain hate, paving the way for more respectful dialogue and a more equitable society. |
