Resumo: This dissertation aimed to understand the perceptions and feelings about sexuality from the perspective of elderly people. Specifically, the aim was to: know the meanings and attributions given to sexuality and sexual activity; distinguish experiences of sexuality in the young and adult phase; seek to understand the experiences of older people in the exercise of sexuality; and to identify prejudices underlying sexuality. The theoretical basis used was the Selection, Optimization and Compensation Theory (SOC Theory), which is based on the Lifespan perspective. Seven elderly people aged between 60 and 75 years old, of both sexes, participated. The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire and an interview with a script. The results of the interviews were analyzed on the Thematic Content Analysis Technique. The main results obtained showed that: 1) the conceptions of sexuality were not restricted to genitality, but involved a more sensory dimension permeated with affection, enchantment and exchanges, having more selectivity in the choice of partners; 2) they felt at ease and did not feel embarrassed when bringing their sexual experiences from the young and adult phase, which suffered variations and had a strong influence of the way men and women were socialized; 3) nowadays, they experience the exercise of sexuality in different ways, from one, who has a long and stable marriage, with an active and satisfying sex life, to another who dreams of finding a gentleman to establish a relationship; 4) prejudices about sexuality appeared underlying some narratives. Therefore, it is concluded by the recognition that sexuality is an important dimension in old age and it is expressed in different ways, as well as it is lived in a peculiar and singular way, being able to associate it with a plural designation, 'old ages'. The expectancy is to contribute to elderly in the rediscovery of possibilities of sexuality; assist in the deconstruction of prejudices that have accompanied old age in the social context, and transform relevant information about sexuality and sexual activity in old age into a psychoeducational intervention.
