Resumo: The present study aims to analyze, based on hybridism conception, how the changes in the Brazilian chronicle reverberated on the journalistic-literary book O mundo fora dos eixos (2005) by Bernardo Carvalho. To achieve this goal, we sought to identify the transformations and peculiarities adopted by that genre in the national territory. The study is temporally delimited from the beginning of the chronicle’s circulation, in Rio de Janeiro, to the contemporaneity in the rest of the country. Thereby, it was possible to conclude that the Brazilian chronicle possesses its own identity. The review of transformations were based on the conceptions of theorists, such as Bakhtin, and his idea of genre, as well as Silviano Santiago, who discussed in a critical perspective the space in-between of the discourse in Latin America. It is worth adding that the chronicle still has its place in Brazilian society even after various changes. In addition, it has expressive acceptance and property as a consequence of the fact that the reader often understands the reality from the perspective of the author whose texts he identifies with. For this reason, aspects of hybridism were placed side by side between journalism and literature based on the work mentioned above. After pointing out these characteristics, we can see a historical and social perspective of how the chronicle started to be well accepted in the country and how it still retains details of texts from periods of the past. We realized that Carvalho's work conveys a kind of interpretation of contents taken from quotidian, mainly those related to art. Thus, the possibility of further studies on this topic remains opened, including researches on digital media. Equally, it is clear that the establishment of the national identity has a strong influence on the reader's routine. As conclusion, it was verified that Bernardo Carvalho’s writing, in the examined work, applies several characteristics of the chronic genre dated from earlier times and, simultaneously, it keeps criticism and sarcasm about human practices alive. In doing so, he updates the theme in an innovative way.
