Resumo: This paper consists of a series of didactic activities aiming at making the teaching/ learning of the concept of perimeter and planimetry easier for sixth grade elementary students. Our objective is to provide students with an opportunity of meaningful learning of those concepts, as well as an introduction to the formulae for the resolution of geometry problems about perimeter and area. The activities are designed to allow the use of geoboard, EVA materials, as well as guidance which help the grasping of concepts and solution of geometry problems. Those activities were performed in two sixth grade classes from two public schools in the city of Ribeirão Preto SP, Brazil. The results were analyzed using the students answers to the exercise. As an outcome, we managed to design a didactic learning tool, validated by this experiment, ready to be used directly or adapted by teachers in similar circumstances.
