Resumo: Factually incorrect information makes it difficult to communicate information in the most diverse sectors of society. Given the increase in the consumption of digital content on social media, the question is: What recommendations to combat the dissemination of false news on social media are discussed and presented by Information Science for a safe and committed librarianship with this contemporary demand. Faced with the research problem, we sought to identify strategies to combat the dissemination of false news on social media presented by the Information Science literature, aiming to provide an overview of the studies dedicated to the topic and collaborate with the dissemination of the main actions and recommendations currently adopted. To this end, an exploratory- descriptive study was conducted that combines bibliographic research to substantiate the theme and data collection on the Web of Science from research from Information Science from the period 2015 to 2020 and focusing on strategies and/or recommendations to combat fake news on social media. Data processing was based on the method of content analysis, with detailed analyzes of the 12 scientific articles selected as the research corpus. As a result, there is the use of different technological resources of fact-checking and informational control to curb the spread of false news; and approaches involving informational behavior and competence, with emphasis on an ethical and responsible performance on the part of librarians. As conclusions, there is the incipient research focused on the discussion and proposal of strategies to combat misinformation in social media, with a greater involvement of the scientific community on the subject.
