Resumo: We live in a world in which each social group has different knowledge, values and beliefs, due to its natural, historical, cultural and social contexts. Understanding the relationships between human societies and ecosystems is of great importance since natural systems are the basis on which human societies are based. This study is divided into two chapters, the first chapter deals with the importance of the perception of ecosystem services by family farmers as the main tool for nature conservation. The recognition of local populations within protected areas is an important factor in establishing conservation measures, since they have knowledge about the local environment, which must be considered in conservation policies and strategies that guarantee the effectiveness of funds invested in conservation. The chapter two shows the case study of the perception of ecosystem services by family farmers in the Ipanema settlement, Iperó SP. Where, it was possible to conclude that, within the ecosystem services, farmers have a greater perception of production services. This is because farmers have a direct relationship with this service.
