Resumo: Brazilian cities often suffer from floods, landslides and erosion caused by surface runoff. In order to mitigate these problems, sustainable urban drainage techniques incorporate infiltration, evapotranspiration and surface runoff retention strategies in order to mimic the pre-urbanization hydrological cycle. Therefore, the simulation of the operation of drainage techniques promotes a better understanding of the behavior of these structures, which can reflect in more efficient projects and better acceptance by the community. In this way, this work adapts, evaluates and applies the Characteristic Rain Events (CRE) methodology for selecting historical rainfall events that are statistically relevant for carrying out hydrological simulations of drainage systems. For this purpose, a computational tool capable of selecting rain events and calculating the hydrological balance of the most used sustainable drainage techniques in Brazil was developed using VBA language. Thus, through the simulation of some scenarios, using infiltration wells, infiltration trenches, rain barrels and vegetative swales it was observed that the results obtained with the proposed tool were similar to those obtained with the SWMM model and that the ECC through the application of PBIAS, NSE and RSR performance ratings.
