Resumo: Teaching math subject in basic education is a big challenge. Once the teacher is successful, the great value to be cultivated is to present students with meaningful content. Nowadays, in many cases, teaching of mathematics is restricted to “learning by heart”, and in this sense we propose a work based on the autonomy to manage their own learning in Modeling Activities. The approach among the school contents and the valorization of the contextualization, connected to the great importance of the use of the computer room was our starting point. In this perspective, mathematical modeling is a mechanism that can be easily associated with some content that makes up the curriculum of the discipline in order to improve the teaching-learning process. Thus, in this work, a discussion is implemented about how mathematical modeling can be worked in line with the study of the difference equations, with the aim of bringing formal mathematics closer to everyday mathematics and, futhermore, bringing the student closer to their reality. To this end, a thorough bibliographic research was carried out in collections of renowned authors in the area of Mathematical Modeling, Functions and Mathematics Teaching-Learning, which enabled the formation of a consistent theoretical foundation for the development of this research, as well as intervention in a class. High School in an elective subject offered by the researcher in a Full Time School. Finally, it was verified the significance of the mathematical modeling approach associated with the contents of the High School curriculum, especially the content of difference equations, and at a given moment, by curiosity of the students, the quadratic function, in the condition of mechanisms. mathematicians capable of developing unique skills in students such as abstraction and logical reasoning.
