Resumo: | This study addresses opportunities for high school teachers to use History of Mathematics under the guidelines of Brazil's Common Core (Base Nacional Curricular Comum). We reflect on the importance of History of Mathematics in the practice of teaching, verify the enthusiasm among researchers and examine objections among the teachers. We then associate landmarks in the History of Mathematics to ten skills, two for each of five specific competences that the Common Core establishes. The associations are based on specialized literature and primary sources and are presented as historical recounts aimed at high school teachers, emphasizing mathematical concepts that should be explored in the classroom. For each association, we also propose mathematical tasks aimed at high school students. We conclude that the eventual resistance to the adoption of the History of Mathematics in secondary education can and should be overcome and that the national curriculum offers many rich opportunities for that. |
