In this environment focus human and technological resources to critically ill individuals treatments, bringing incomparably, for this medical work, the highest voltage levels, which when persistent and chronic leads to BURNOUT Syndrome OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the prevalence of the Syndrome of BURNOUT in doctors of Intensive Therapy units Neo-Natal, infant and adult public and private hospitals of an inner city in the Northeast, according to the characteristics of demographic survey. METHODS: we conducted a cross-sectional study with the application of two questionnaires: one of demographic data such as sex, age, marital status, children, while graduating, working time in the ICU, workday, work shift, work type (health subsystem) qualification and another, the Maslach BURNOUT Inventory survey (MBI) to verify the prevalence of BURNOUT Syndrome. Participants entered the study after signing an informed consent (466/CNS resolution 12). The project was approved by the Unisantos Research Ethics Committee. Descriptive analysis was performed of all variables of the study. The Chi-square test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey multiple comparisons test. The level of significance in all analyses was 5%. RESULTS: There was a greater prevalence of males (50.5%) married (74.7%) and children (81.3 percent). Observe the prevalence of doctors with (80.2%) working the three periods (75.8 percent) in public and private services (48.3 percent). Most doctors work in adult ICU (59.3 percent), followed by the Pediatric ICU (26.4%) and neonatal (14.3 percent). The median age was 45.73 (standard deviation of 10.30) years. The ANOVA test showed that there is a difference between the types of Infant/Pediatric INTENSIVE CARE UNIT and the Emotional Exhaustion Domain (p = 0.047). The Tukey multiple comparison test, we have the highest level of emotional exhaustion are in Infant/Pediatric ICUs. Were considered risk factors for emotional exhaustion: have more than 45 years (RC = 2.78; 95% CI: 1.01-7.69), low depersonalization (RC = 3.96; Ci95%: 1.39-11.25) and low personal realization (RC = 9.15; Ci95%: 3.00-27.90). CONCLUSION: The Burnout Syndrome can be considered a devastating problem that occurs silently affecting occupational health intensivistas.
