Resumo: |
Introduction: this study investigates spirituality in participants of a cardiovascular rehabilitation program and its relationship with functionality, depressive symptoms and cardiorespiratory fitness. Objective: to verify if there is a correlation between the scores of the dimensions of spirituality and the sociodemographic variables, depressive symptoms, functionality and cardiorespiratory fitness in participants of a cardiovascular rehabilitation program. Method: this is an observational, cross-sectional study with a descriptive-analytical approach. The research sample consisted of 33 patients with heart disease, including elderly people aged 60 years or older, participants of the Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program of the Clinical Center (CECLIN) of the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS). Results: the average age of respondents was 74 years, most of them men (54.5%), with elementary education (42.4%), married or in a stable relationship (63.3%), retired (66.7% ) and Catholic (93.9%). As for depressive symptoms and basic and instrumental activities of daily living, spirituality did not influence and did not change aspects related to well-being. Regarding cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2), patients with Excellent/Superior VO2 presented higher spirituality compared to the mean for the ARES scale when compared to cases with Very Weak/Weak VO2. Conclusion: the survey of the results of this research shows that spirituality did not influence the aspects that refer to functional independence and depressive symptoms. However, it proved to be an important factor for the improvement of VO2 levels in RCV participants who obtained an Excellent/Superior degree in the final VO2, presenting a higher spirituality score |
