Resumo: Information Technology (IT) resources are representing a growing role in the market, supporting operational and strategic business activities. Software development activities are an important part of the total IT resources consumed by companies. The Brazilian software market and related services are almost 1% of Brazilian GDP and growing year after year, offering opportunities for professionals and organizations that provide software products and services. As the business volume grows, the literature indicates that most software development projects show duration and/or effort overruns, which represent problems for client organizations and service providers. These problems are related to (i) effort and (ii) duration estimation errors. The objective of this work is to identify the factors that mainly contribute to minimize effort and duration estimation errors in software development projects. The research adopts a quantitative method of explanatory hypothesis. The dimensions and analysis factors were defined based on the literature review and pre-tests with specialists. Conclusions show that teamwork, execution control and resource management are the main responsibles for minimizing estimation error.
