Resumo: Universities and other academic environments are increasingly facing global competition. These organizations compete for resources, talent, and projects. To confront the strong competition in the higher education sector, academic departments need to be more innovative by launching new academic programs and developing innovative research proposals. In this environment, it is necessary for these organizations to build competitive advantages compared to their peers. Knowledge sharing (KS) is a key factor in building competitive advantages and the ability to innovate. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how to facilitate KS among academics to make universities more competitive and innovative. Although studies have been conducted on KS in universities, no studies have been found that have analyzed the factors that positively influence KS among academics in southern Brazil. In addition, it is observed that knowledge management initiatives in universities are still in their early stages. This research aims to understand which factors positively influence KS among academics in southern Brazil. Through a survey with 316 professors and researchers in universities in southern Brazil, this study analyzed whether Organizational Rewards, Quality of the Management System, Open Communication, and Face-to-Face Interactive Communication are positively related to knowledge sharing among academics in southern Brazil. Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique was used to analyze the data. Results show that the Quality of the Knowledge Management System, Open Communication, and Face-to-Face Interactive Communication are factors that are positively related to KS among academics in southern Brazil.
