Resumo: |
The Family Apperception Test FAT aims to evaluate the structure and family functioning through the perception of who answers the instrument. This test is intended for children and teenagers aged 6 to 15 years old. It is a projective test, which serves as a bridge between the individual and family assessment. Understanding the familiar aspects in the evaluation process of the subject is essential, since the family significantly influences the behavior and sense of identity of their members. This institution has a crucial power in the life of each of its members, and the flow of influence occurs in both directions simultaneously, the family influencing the choices of its members and the same as well, being agents of this change. So to be possible to use this test, this study aimed to contribute to the process of adapting the instrument to the Brazilian reality, since it is originally American. This adaptation presupposes empirical studies of validity and reliability. The current status of FAT in this process is a reliability study between evaluators and validity study of evidence based on internal structure of System Categorization Answers FAT completed, as well as a study of criterion validity, a central theme of this dissertation. Therefore, this dissertation was divided into two sections. The first discusses theoretically the construct Borders, relating it to the familiar functionality. The boundaries constitute the proximity and distance, within and outside the family, its main function is to protect and maintain the differentiation between systems, in other words, distinguish the different roles of family members. In a dysfunctional family structure, boundaries are presented as rigid or diffuse, featuring an inadequacy in the interaction between family members. While in functional healthy families, the boundaries are flexible, allowing its members to try out in other environments without losing its essential identity. The second section shows a study of evidence of criterion validity. This study featured a total sample of 451 subjects, divided among 329 of the general population (non-clinical) and 122 participants in the clinical-psychiatric group. The instruments used for data collection were: a form of socio-demographic data in order to characterize the subjects; the Colored Progressive Matrices Test and General Raven Scale, to exclude participants with suspected intellectual impairment; and the projective instrument, Family Apperception Test - FAT, developed based on systemic theory, organized by Sotile, Julian III, Henry and Sotile. As a result it was verified the proof that the psychometric FAT behaves as a valid tool to differentiate the examined about their perception of the family in some of the different groups evaluated criterion. With this result, this dissertation contributes to the larger work of adapting the FAT to the Brazilian reality. |
