Resumo: |
The purpose of this thesis is to identify which management skills are relevant for the transition and continuity of the family business from first to second generation ownership. This research explores the succession process in family business via a competency-based perspective. It was taken into account that succession within family enterprise involves management and leadership of property, family and business. Qualitative data were gathered from three family-run companies that operate in the service sector, being small or mediumsized enterprises, which were going through joint work between founder and successor. In the results, the competencies of both founder and successor, the relevance of such competencies for the business and a comparison between them were looked into. In conclusion, it is possible to state that the founders competencies reflected on the management style and the successors most relevant competencies worked for enhancing the company management. It was also possible to observe the expectations regarding property management and family leadership, the structuring of the succession process and the successors need for improvement at the companies under study. |
