Resumo: |
This dissertation aims to analyze the representation of Brazilian masculinities as portrayed in the feature film The Awakener (Bonafé, 2018). An adaptation from a homonymous comic book with explicitly political and far-right content, the film dialogues with the trend of contemporary superhero films. Through procedures of contextual film analysis, the present work utilizes concepts from gender studies to understand how the film articulates the elements of cinematic language to construct its male characters. Therefore, it establishes the parameters of hegemonic masculinity, as formulated by Raewyn Connell (2005), in an investigation of the film's cultural and ideological context. Considering a multiculturalist and multiperspective approach (KELLNER, 2001), the work analyzes how the tradition of Hollywood action films and superhero narratives, transposed to the Brazilian scenario, influences the performance (BUTLER, 2003) of gender practices in The Awakener. A post-colonial perspective serves as the framework for how the film reflects and contributes to the ideology of contemporary Brazilian masculinities. |
