Resumo: This dissertation, approved by PUCRS Research Ethics Committee (CEP), under the registration CEP 11/05397 aims to analyze Porto Alegre (RS) public teachers self-image/self-esteem, self-realization and well-being/ill-being levels and identify and analyze the well-being indicators shown by those teachers, as well as to propose elements that can help to decrease the ill-being and promote the teacher well-being. Consequently, it was used a quanti-qualitative methodological approach by applying questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Regarding the quantitative research, three questionnaires were used: the Self-Image and Self-Esteem Questionnaire (STOBÄUS, 1983), the Self-Realization Questionnaire Based on the Abraham Maslow Theory and the Instrument for Assessment of Variables that are Indicators of Teacher Well-being and Ill-being (JESUS, 1998). About the qualitative research, a semi-structured interview was used (STOBÄUS; MOSQUERA; 2009) to add to the quantitative research and it was based on the Content Analysis proposed by Bardin (2010). The theoretical reference is basically grounded in the studies of Esteve (1994; 1999), Jesus (1996; 1998; 2001a; 2001b; 2002; 2004; 2007), Maslow (1991), Mosquera (1978; 1987), Mosquera and Stobäus (1996; 2006; 2008) and Stobäus (1983). On this research, it was possible to verify that, concerning the self-image/self-esteem levels, teachers interviewed in A School and C School present more positive levels whereas teachers interviewed in B School present an equivalence between the higher levels (positive) and the lower ones (negative); on the whole, the teachers interviewed present more positive levels than negative levels. About the self-realization levels, teachers interviewed in A School present lower satisfaction levels on physical and self-realization needs and higher satisfaction levels on respect and relationship needs; teachers interviewed in B School present lower satisfaction levels on physical and security needs and higher satisfaction levels on relationship and respect needs; teachers interviewed on C School present lower satisfaction levels on physical and security needs and higher satisfaction levels on respect and relationship needs; on the whole, teachers interviewed present lower satisfaction levels on physical and self-realization needs and higher satisfaction levels on respect and relationship needs. Concerning the teacher well-being/ill-being levels, those interviewed in A School present and equivalence between the ill-being and well-being levels, whereas those interviewed in B School and C School present more ill-being levels than well-being levels; on the whole, teachers interviewed also present higher ill-being levels. After analyzing the data obtained by the Teacher Well-Being/Ill-Being Instrument, a Psycho-pedagogical Workshop was done aiming to minimize the ill-being. Also, it was possible to identify and to analyze some teacher well-being indicators, which were separated into the following categories: Professional realization/Pleasure, Social contribution/Graduation, Recognition/Appreciation, Internal relationships and interrelationships/Affectivity and Qualification. On this research, it was verified that, in order to prevent and minimize the ill-being and to promote the teacher well-being, some intervention measures should be carried out by some sections responsible for the education, such as the State, the family and the pedagogical management. Besides, the own educator may and must invest in elements that can contribute to his own satisfaction and personal and professional realization as self-concept, self-image, self-esteem, self-realization, well-being, affectivity, coping and resilience.
