Resumo: |
Spirituality and quality of life, in the last few years, have had increasing importance in care context, mostly in poor health conditions, and especially in old age. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the elderly people‟s spirituality and quality of life, when assisted both at home and in hospitals, by means of Supplemental Health Services. In order to reach this goal, the descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional study was used, with a quantitative approach, in a 60 elderly people sample, in João Pessoa-PB, equally distributed in two groups: home and hospital care. The participants were aged between 60 and 98 years old, female people predominating (72%). Results showed that both groups presented, mostly, cardiovascular diseases, being 50% in those ones in home care condition and 40% among the ones receiving hospital assistance. As to the degree of satisfaction with the assistance, 100% were satisfied with the home care, whereas only 60% were satisfied with the hospital assistance. In regard to the confidence level, both groups were satisfied in both situations. As to the spirituality and personal beliefs, data revealed that the home modality received a higher score than that of the hospital in questions such as: a connection with the spiritual being or power; admiration, wholeness and integration. Concerning quality of life, analyzed from the WHOQOL-BREF point of view, a positive effect was observed in most of the home modality features. A similar result was also obtained with the WHOQOL-OLD, as concerning the following features: past, present and future activities, privacy as well as social participation. Home care presented a better life quality in all of them. The results of this study indicate that home care, as compared to the hospital one, promotes a better life quality and fosters spirituality in the elderly people. |
