Resumo: This paper analyzes topics on international political economy within the capitalist development project in South Korea. We agree that the Korean development process, between 1961 and 1991, was through an export-led industrialization strategy conducted by a strong State that planned and coordinated the course of development thanks to a certain institutional and political configuration that allowed it to fulfill special economic functions. This interpretation is known as Developmental State. We show that this development model was deeply influenced by both domestic factors as international factors. The state's ability to respond positively and to adapt to the geopolitical context, the regional pattern of economic development and the conditions of international trade for the period was crucial for the developmental success. This strategy has resulted in a pattern of trade and capital transfers with the core countries consistent with the economic situation and world politics of the period.
