Resumo: In the light of the theoretical assumptions of Bakhtin and his Circle, regarding the language and its dialogical and ideological nature, the study presented in this text is a reflection that focuses on what we call genre of speech of the teacher´s manual of Portuguese and also about the speech of the teacher on that manual. The teacher's manual is made up of the student book containing answers to the developed activities, messages and instructions for the teacher, and one booklet or appendix that sets up a discursive construction whose purpose is to address the various issues related to the work purpose. As we take these objects to study (the enunciation of the manual and as well as the teacher´s), we aim to look how the teaching and learning model of mother tongue that is observed in the work, the discourses that shape this model, the role of the textbook the proposal of that teaching and learning and the teacher's position on these events. With the advent of the evaluation of didactic works implemented by MEC through the Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD), introduced a breaking point between the previous model and the current book, since the latter was produced with greater quality, also causing changes in the way the producers of books dialogically interact with the teacher through the manual, and this determines which represents a development of the genre. This development is approached here through a methodological procedure that establishes comparisons between a work from the year 1990 and a work from the year 2000, from which we examine both, the speech that goes to the teacher (via insert / Appendix) and the consonance between what is said in the body of this discourse, in terms of accomplishment and what actually takes place (in the book the student). The thesis that drives this research now presented is that, despite the quality that we see today in the textbook, the teaching and learning of Portuguese can still not be responding positively to this endeavor, among other reasons discussed here, is also the fact that the teacher is not contemplated in this process.
