Resumo: |
This study addresses the relationship between knowledge management processes, innovation capacity and organizational innovation in knowledge-intensive companies in Brazil and Portugal. The theoretical basis of the study was composed by the theories of resource-based view, dynamic capabilities and knowledge-based view. The data processing follow quantitative and qualitative procedures. The method consist of two steps, a quantitative and a qualitative, in that order. The quantitative stage uses partial least squares procedures in a 341 sample of information and communication technology firms. The qualitative stage uses interview and content analysis procedures on 10 interviews with members of information and communication technology firms. The results show that the knowledge management acquisition and application processes are directly related to innovation capacity, knowledge management storage and application processes are directly related to organizational innovation, and the knowledge management acquisition and application processes are indirectly related to organizational innovation via innovation capacity. The results also show that Brazilian and Portuguese companies have different relationships between knowledge management sharing and application processes and organizational innovation. The findings indicate that knowledge management processes have direct and indirect influence on the innovation capacity and organizational innovation, and this influence can be changed by the existence of complex contingencies. |
