Resumo: Karl von Koseritz is, definitely, an outstanding and important person to the history of the nineteenth century press in Rio Grande do Sul. His performance, in this context, has shown the richness of his ideas and a unique way of thinking. The aim of this study is to analyze and fully understand the possibilities of Koseritz s successful typographic venture he brought up in Porto Alegre, from 1864 to 1890. The time of the greatest intellectual production happened after his arrival to the Capital of the province until his death. It was a period when newspaper, illustrated album, literary and scientific journal, and almanacs were the fundamental tools used to publicize Koseritz s ideas. At the moment existing and thinking were mixed together, it was possible to show the multifaceted characteristics of this free-thinker, concerning not only the press but everything he took on as a public man. He was always engaged in the interests and needs of the Teutonic-Brazilian component, the liberalism ideals, the commitment to the world of words, the literary vanguard, the philosophic rationality and the modern scientism. Therefore, it is possible to have a detailed view of the different features, as well as political, social and cultural itinerary in Brazil, of one of the most influent men in the second half of the nineteenth century.
