Resumo: This thesis aimed to respond to what justifies a demand for educational public policies that met the diversity expressed mainly in public schools and which is impacted by recent immigration flows in the country. For this, it was necessary to map the current presence of immigrant students in Brazil by surveying the 2016 and 2017 school census data, showing the distribution of immigrant students in each state and Brazilian region, according to nationality, sex, age group age, color / race and type of school dependency. Concomitantly, a bibliographic research was carried out with a survey of some recent researches that showed the problems that affected the immigrant population in Brazil. Finally, interviews were conducted with two groups of migrants, the first with immigrants in Brazil with children at school and the second with Brazilian immigrants, with children studying abroad. Based on this information, it was possible to answer the research problem, as well as to find some more findings that surprised the researcher, such as the fact that the majority of immigrants in Brazil are white, although most problems affect black, mixed-race students. and indigenous. It was also analyzed what developed countries have done to solve problems arising from diversity with the large presence of immigrants and the conclusion was reached that there are proposals for paths to be taken by educational institutions to guarantee equal opportunities for these different individuals in same society, and these paths go through multicultural education
