This dissertation presents and analyzes some elements that came out during the development of an activity which articulates history of mathematics and teaching. We sought to identify the impressions held by teachers, during its development, and the didactic potential of the history of mathematics in teacher s training. To achieve this, we selected an activity entitled Construction of a quarter circle quadrant instrument based on a treatise published in the sixteenth century which was designed by HEEMa. It was developed by a group of second degree Elementary School teachers of São Paulo state. We noticed that the development of that promoted a dialogue between the present mathematical knowledge and its past. This dialogue encouraged the participants to make some reflections and to discuss mathematical concepts which were called into action for building the instrument, showing us possible contributions of the history of mathematics to the teacher s training |
