Resumo: This dissertation has as its theme the construction of the news fact from the report. To approach it, it is situated on the theoretical bases of Critical Discourse Analysis, more specifically in its Sociocognitive aspect, and Textual Linguistics, in a multidisciplinary path. The general objective is to contribute with studies on textual genres of journalistic discourse, verifying how a news fact is constructed in a report, and the specific objectives are: a) to identify the differences between the news and report genres from the analysis of short texts : headline and thin line; b) verify which strategies are used so that a news event is transformed into a story based on the construction of the lead; c) compare, in the reportage and news genres, the semantic categories Unusual and Present and the sensationalism; and d) check the elements that organize the composition of reduced texts in the same genres. The corpus of analysis of this study was constituted from texts collected in the newspapers O Estado de S. Paulo and Folha de S. Paulo and in the magazines Isto é and Época and is composed of short texts of news and reports that have as subjects politicians. The adopted methodology is qualitative with theoretical-analytical procedure. And the results obtained indicate that: a) the headlines and fine lines of the news and reports, although they deal with the same subject, are built from different objectives, while the short texts of the news are informative, those of the opinionated reports; b) the leads also have different construction strategies and purposes; c) the semantic categories Unusual and Present are more common in the news genre and sensationalism, although it is used as a strategy in the construction of news, is more evident in the report genre; and d) the elements that make up the short texts of the news and reports are repeated most of the time, that is, the news and report have the same structure
